中級 日本語 1『〜たがる』
In this lesson we’ll talk about another way to express wanting to do something, similar to「〜てほしい」and 「〜たい」.
There are several ways to express ‘wanting to do’ or ‘wishing for’ something. 「〜たい」,「〜てほしい」and even「〜てくる」can express ‘to want’. Another way of expressing ‘to want’ or rather ‘wanting to’ is using the 五段-verb 「〜たがる」. As seen above, you can form it by using the stem (leave out -masu) of a verb and attaching「〜たがる」, this will add the meaning ‘wanting to’ to a verb.
example: ❶行きます → ❷行き(leave out -masu) → ❸行きたがる(attach 〜たがる) = want to go
Please note that this is not used in 1st person.
